France: Former President Sarkozy jailed for one year, convicted of illegal funding
Former French President Nicolas Sarkozy has been sentenced to one year in prison by a local court on corruption charges. Sarkozy has been convicted by the court of illegal funding in the 2012 elections. Sarkozy, 66, was the President of France from 2007 to 2012. According to the news agency AFP, the court said that there are serious facts against the former president, in which he misused his position for personal interest. The court said that after the election defeat in 2012, Sarkozy had done illegal transactions of money by abusing his office.
